“Our objective cannot be to stick a finger in the eye of the public with superiority, in order to draw the attention to what is happening around us. In the Gogol’s time – it could. Inspector general was a taboo topic at that time. And today? Today, corruption is more than an offence; it is a social phenomenon particularly interesting. It could be said that corruption is a precondition for successful business and life. This dramatic interpretation of Gogol highlights the investigation as social mimicry, and the corruption as an eternal game that goes on and cannot be stopped.… Everything goes around. What goes around comes around… Nothing has changed from the tsarist social context,
in which Gogol’s critical spirit made observations, to our time of
transition and the capitalist profiteering spirit.
We talk about immorality amongst the creatures that do not recognize
the moral codes. It is swarming with triviality and gaping due to
absence of emotions. We are facing absurdity.
In this reading of “The Inspector General”, there is no sobering,
because we do not deserve it, it makes us laugh because we laugh at
ourselves.
Welcome to the world that cannot take a turn for the better.”
