In February 1968, the Small Theatre, the today’s Chamber Theatre, premiered the dramatic text, or to be more precise, the farce by Mirko Kovač „You are Losing Your Grip, Your Highness“, directed by Zlatan Dorić. After the premiere, as early as the next morning, the ban on this performance was received by the Theatre. „You are Losing Your Grip, Your Highness“ belongs to the world which I started portraying in my books of prose „Place of Execution“ and „My Sister Elida“. This dramatic text, which I named a farce, records the moment of dissipation of all the things that have passed. The characters try to do something that will bring back their state of happiness, believing in “the good old times” as the only condition for their happiness. In their weakness to do anything, all the values are dissipating in front of them. Mutual relations, moral responsibility, love; everything is dead, covered by dust and motionless. In the end, only illusion of that happiness remains, the act in which the servant triumphs when he identifies his idea with the pleasure he prepares for himself. This is where his desire to change the world ends. The text has a realistic basis, from which it departs from time to time, escaping into farce. The characters are often brought to the state of absurd. If I had to identify the basic idea of the drama, which it unnecessary, it would be the state of weakness, losing one’s grip, as the title says.”
