“On the stage of the Theatre of Belarusian Drama /…/ there was a
premiere of the drama „The Poet’s Diary”. The dramaturge Sergey Kovalev took as a basis for this drama the unpublished intimate diary of
the great Belarusian poet, Maxim Bogdanovich, The play was staged
by the director Vital Barkouski.
The play consists of two parts. In the first act, the action takes place in
1915, in a small place Old Krym, in which Maxim Bogdanovich was
under medical treatment. That is where the poet experienced true love.
He wrote down his feelings on a few pieces of paper, which are now
known under the title „The Intimate Diary”.
The second act is about how the Diary was found in Minsk, and the
disputes among the writers, scientists and publishers whether to publish it or not
Using theatrical tools, the director managed to portray the original
creative personality of the main character and to depict his mental agony. The performance is not intended for massive audience, but for
an astute, smart spectator, ready for the most unexpected creative experiments.”
Valentina Aksak, Radio Svoboda
„Director Vital Barkouski is a master of creation of subtle artistic performances, whereby he relies on exciting detective stories that usually
contain a topic of love…
…This really resembles life, because people lose their happiness very
often and quite unreasonably. However, realizing that human happiness is short and inconsistent, the show underscores the importance of
recognizing the values and the beauty of every moment of life.”
