The main issue of “Alembrar” is memory. Memory as renewal of
tradition. Remembering of the tradition works as an impulse for us
to recreate our identity in a constant way, since the major part of the
opportunities to remember is not to live again, but to remake, rethink
with images and ideas of the present experiences of the past.
When we talk about memory, we remember immediately the history
teller, the narrator, and thus we come out with the necessity to create
the history, to talk about this matter. The story teller is the one who
knows his culture and traditions that pass from people to people, from
generation to generation. And yet, it appears to us that the traditional art
of narrative is being extinguished. We receive, each day, news by the
papers and other means of communication and, in spite of this, we are
in need of stories, of subjectivity. Facts come to us already explained,
the reactions and consequences of everything come to us already
digested for us, and let no space for imagination, for interpretation.
And besides that, everything related to traditional culture is ever more
substituted by massive culture. Music, dance, arts, costumes and even
religions are nowadays media dictated phenomena. Today, everything
is turned into products, quickly consumed, letting no space for choice,
for different cultures, dialogue, in such a way that thoughts and
actions are standardized. Those standards, because they are emptied of
knowledge and historical practice, fnish by producing a weak society,
with disposable ideas.
We are not against progress and modernity and also do not discharge the
importance of new types of culture and communication, but we want
to discuss the amount of loss in humanity that we have got by facing
only the future and forgetting who we are and where we come from.
Memory, epics, remembering are the issues that link us with tradition,
by which knowledge is transmitted from generation to generation and
makes us develop as human beings.
With this play we want to light the remembering of our roots. |
