Who are Zalica’s main characters? Lovers or killers?!... To help you decide, they pass through a world created in the theatre, slinking along an insane turnover where they move from the grotesque to the tragic, the tragic to the comic. We ask ourselves whether Filip and Olga are attempting to kill Hionia or is Hionia weaving a game in which “impossible things happen in a possible world or vice versa – possible things are happening in an impossible world.” Can there be a winner in such a game, or are the winners those who most willingly accept the impossible as possible, those who disappear, but belong to the others, who exist but are lost? In the end, the actors prevail as they succumb to the passionate embrace of the power of theatre, from which, through means of different genres, they let themselves fall into the clinch in which all theatrical media are allowed.

The lines of love, game play and death get tangled in the tragi-grotesque The Embrace. Following the dramaturgical rules of thriller, which have been the formal guideline for all his dramas, Zalica forges the tale of a love triangle in which a game of life and death is played, where the victim of an unreal game manifests into the winner in reality. Hionia is stronger than death because love is on her side, while her husband, Filip and mistress, Olga, portrayed by the author as the “erroneous embracers”, become the victims of their own weakness.
