SLAVIJA: THEATRE PROFESSIONALS AND THEATRE
IN THE ACT OF LOVE
For seven years, The „Slavija” Theatre has managed to hold its Festival, as
the crown of its theatrical work, in very hard conditions. This is the theatre
in which performances are given every evening, ten months a year, in which
the audience „has never fallen ill”, therefore, the theatre which is always
packed?
Having comprehended the quintessence, the very nature of what is the essential
quality of this event, both as a viewer and as a jury member, I have actually
discovered the place of uncorrupt, fully relevant theatre workshop, in
which, every year, the efforts of a great number of theatre lovers from various
parallels of Europe and the world are evaluated.
In any of its stages and segments of functioning, The SLAVIJA Festival is not
an elitist, or snobbish view of the theatre. It is an event fully committed to the
audience and theatre establishment, in the same time!
It is really hard to achieve that!
However, when the performances are selected openly, without calculations or
common festival jobbing, to the delight of viewers, but also the critics who
write about the performances given in the festival, such a goal is achieved,
without any doubt.
I am enchanted, first of all, with the fact that the festival intonation is in the
function of glorifying the personality of the Actor.
SLAVIJA is a dedicated place, in which all of us bow down before the acting
energy, essential talent and artistic diversity of actor being!
I am sure that the coming generations will witness high achievements of this
festival event, and that the culture authorities and authorities in general will
show more inclination to it, and that sponsors and donor will be much more
generous!!!
SLAVIJA is simply the need, the basic need of all genuine theatre lovers!
Particularly important in all these years of the Festival’s existence and perseverance
is a magnificent act of love created between the theatre professionals
and the theatre as such, during the days of the SLAVIJA Festival.
The fact is that the following persons are present in this Festival: Hacek,
Yerofeev, McDonough, Roni Feldman, Gabor Lengel, Berkoff, Ibrahim
Kajan, Bulat Okudzava, Goran Stefanovski, Jeff Baron, Bora Stanković,
Ionesco, Strindberg, Mija Ilić, Emanuel Schmitt, Alexander Pushkin, Nick
Wood, Dušan Kovačević, Ljubiša Georgijevski, Jovan Sterija Popović, Kiš,
and Sophocles. The fact is also that establishment of this festival was supported
by the unique personalities: Ljuba Tadić, Miša Janketić, Pera
Banićević, Dragica Tomas, Mira Stupica, Radko Polič, that the accents of its
impressive magnificence were given by Pero Kvrgić, late Zoran Bečić, Kaća
Dorić, and the directing masters, who won international acclaim. All this
speaks in favour of the thesis that this event is not just a commonplace festivity,
but a seriously designed festival, which never forgets its spectators, and
which is always committed to the fine accord and harmony of the supreme
theatrical thought and the requirements of spectators, generated „through the
times”
